donkey forever was probably the surprise package of this year from a cinematographic point of view. Those of us with fond memories of the TV show and the other three films made by the daredevil team of childish pranksters were hoping for something funny, but few expected such a joyous celebration of silliness. The film is now coming to Paramount+ UK, allowing us all to relive the chaos once more.

Elsewhere, the giant that is yellow stone returns to screens with more from Kevin Costner and the rest of the Dutton clan. There’s also a new superhero movie. secret headquartersin which Owen Wilson plays a powerful crime fighter, and the return of the rugrats.

Appendix (August 5)

Bruce Willis announced his retirement from acting recently, but there are still a few of his projects making their way into the world. His regular collaborator in his directing, Edward John Drake, is in charge of Appendix, which takes place in the near future and stars Willis as a wronged ex-cop serving an unjust life sentence. He is granted the chance to be free if he can survive a dangerous game in which he serves as prey for a group of wealthy hunters who intend to kill him for sport.

Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman put an energetic spin on the superhero formula a few years ago when they directed project power for Netflix. They have now joined forces with the MCU and the mandalorian alum Christopher Yost to create this story of a group of kids who learn that one of their parents, played by Owen Wilson, is a superhero when they come across his secret headquarters under their house. The cast also includes Michael Peña.

The boys are back in town, and age hasn’t softened their willingness to put their bodies and sense of pride on the line in the name of entertainment. Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O and the rest of the team continue to push the limits of taste, while presumably writing risk assessments as long as their arms, with the help of several new team members. It’s 90 minutes of people throwing up and falling over, sure, but there’s something refreshingly nonchalant about the carnage.

Jackie Rohr, played by Kevin Bacon with a luscious mustache, has now left the FBI and is working a lucrative security job. The show continues to explore the darkness and corruption of Boston, with Bacon’s former agent still in the orbit of Aldis Hodge’s assistant district attorney.

the pitch (August 1)

David Appelbaum’s ambitious sci-fi series begins with a massive natural disaster in which a sinkhole opens up in Los Angeles, causing a massive death toll and the destruction of the city. The series then follows the aftermath of this event, with the residents of Los Angeles struggling to survive and the rest of the world trying to figure out how it all happened.

Almost 20 years after the original run of the animated series rugrats came to an end, Paramount+ revived the series in the form of CGI animation. The original group of babies are present and correct, with the surviving voice actors stepping behind the microphone once again. There are a handful of changes to the characters and settings but, for the most part, this is the series many of us grew up loving, with a brighter coat of paint.

You are the chosen one? United Kingdom (August 8)

Streaming services absolutely love dating-based reality shows. Now, Paramount+ UK presents a UK version of the MTV show You are the chosen one?, which follows the usual formula of single people in charge of living together in a house. The twist this time is that one of her fellow contestants is her scientifically chosen perfect match. They just have to find the right person.

Box (August 11)

This three-part true crime documentary follows Detective Chris Loudon as he follows the information and clues revealed by an unopened box of evidence from decades earlier, shining a light on one of America’s worst serial killers in the process.

The fourth series in the hugely popular series. yellow stone sees Kevin Costner return as ranch owner and family patriarch John Dutton. Written by HitmanTaylor Sheridan’s Taylor Sheridan series continues to explore the conflicts between the Dutton clan and their neighbors: a rapidly expanding city, a Native American reservation, and a national park.

The disappearance of Gaby Petito (August 18th)

Internet research has proven to be an exciting focal point for documentary series over the years, including Netflix’s horrific effort. Don’t fuck with cats. This three-part series explores the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of 22-year-old vlogger Gabby Petito, prompting hundreds of internet sleuths to spring into action.
